I held the position of Creative Executive at London ENT, a production company run by Dre London. Here, I used my skills to develop and bring life to a range of motion picture and television projects. Collaborating closely with management companies, agencies, and book labels in acquisitions, I was instrumental in acquiring I.P.(intellectual property) and selling our slate of projects to various streaming platforms and broadcast networks.

Here’s a glimpse of life in the writer’s room, where my main responsibility was guiding teams through project breakdowns with the aim of further developing our scripted content.

These specific images are from a writers room I conducted pertaining to an upcoming comedy feature LIQUOR STORE, produced by Tyga and, written by myself and Kian Mirnezam.

As a Creative Executive, another primary responsibility was working with third parties to sell our existing projects.

In the image below, I sat with the creative leadership at Showtime to pitch our crime drama pilot that I wrote and developed, High Heel.

Project Overview

I scripted and developed “Farlee and Friends: Christmas Special,” an animated adaptation of Rebekah Phillips’ children’s book series and the corresponding toy collection. Alongside Phillips, I managed writing sessions and weekly production meetings, creating ten scripts for its animated episodes that harmonized with the existing Farlee and Friends content. My team first recruited then collaborated with storyboard artists and an animation studio to produce high-quality episodes that met budgetary needs. We aired the episode during Christmas of 2020 – exceeding a million views on YouTube.

The Task

The objective of this project was to deliver a high-quality mini-series based on the Farlee and Friends children’s series and toy collection. The idea behind the series was to harmonize and streamline all existing content from Rebekah Phillips existing book line.

The Process
null

The first step was to break down each of Phillips’ books and speak with the author about her vision. Collaboration was maintained throughout the whole ideation process to ensure she was satisfied with every script and animation.

I got to work and wrote ten scripts inspired by the various books in the Farlee and Friends series. From there we met with Phillips’ team for weekly meetings to ensure that the team was satisfied. As a main director of these writers’ meetings, I made sure that the produced scripts were synergistic with the book series as well as the various Farlee and Friends toy lines/products in production.

We directed their knowledge and expertise through weekly writers’ meetings while guiding the script, production logistics, and budgets from development to final release.

From here, my partner and I actually acted out the script, allowing for a seamless transition into collaboration with a storyboard artist.

The storyboard artist assists in the representation of an animated narrative. These storyboards enabled the team to accurately understand the animated transformation of the script and prompted us to, in certain instances, add or remove details from the narrative.

Once the team was in agreement on the storyboard & script, we proceeded with animation and voice-casting. One of my main objectives was to seamlessly integrate this short film with all the other Farlee and Friends media. To accomplish this, I ensured that animation and character portrayal seamlessly translated from book and toy to the big screen.

From there we ran weekly production meetings to facilitate a successful pipeline for production that led to a high quality animation episode that fit within the company’s budgetary parameters.

ROLE: Screenwriter/Creative Executive

Project Overview

My partner, Kian Mirnezam, and I collaborated with well-known actors, producers, and musicians Post Malone, Tyga, David Arquette, Christina Arquette, and Trinidad James to produce a pilot for upcoming TV crime series, High Heel.

The series follows a woman named Toni who arrives in Memphis, Tennessee only to be introduced into an underground crime organization. A shocking discovery reveals that what appears to be a women’s shoe line business on the surface is really a cover-up for an international drug smuggling ring.

The Task

While at London ENT, my partner and I were asked to aid in establishing a company foothold in the film and television industry. Our first goal: create a TV crime series.

The Process

I sat down with Dre London (CEO of London ENT), Christina and David Arquette, and my creative partner (Kian Mirnezam) to answer the daunting question, “What plotline is missing from the current landscape of network television that will enthrall audiences” This question inspired my partner and I to connect with east coast rap community legend Trinidad James where, together, we wrote the full script for High Heel

Since we started the project during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were met with a series of challenges including the health and distancing precautions that we would have to take in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Early on, we generated a plan to create a series that would not only expand London ENT, but also connect individuals within the entertainment industry with safe employment opportunities. I developed a COVID-19 protocol that prioritized the health and safety of each individual on set.

My creative partner and I worked with Hollywood’s top actors, producers, and musicians (Christina Arquette, David Arquette, Trinidad James, Post Malone, and Tyga) to organize and guide the exhilarating series from initial concepts to final productions. The team quickly expanded, as we brought in Director Rochée Jeffrey, a director of photography, and additional line producers were integrated into the team from here.

The team quickly expanded, as we brought in Director Rochée Jeffrey, a director of photography, and further line producers were further aided into the team from here.

We began by writing and developing pilot episodes on a weekly schedule. To ensure High Heel developed according to plan, I coordinated weekly meetings between the cast, production teams, and writers that began in the pilot season and continued throughout production).

Here are some pictures of my leadership in writers’ rooms, where I guided teams through the breakdown of scripts while overseeing creative editing.

Since the show is set in Memphis, Tennessee, we flew from Los Angeles to Memphis to establish locations, stakeholders, and production teams that were local to the area. Local scouting was important to us and, between individuals in Memphis bars and the Memphis Tennessee Department of Tourism, they were just as excited about High Heel as I was.

We then shot test footage before going into the main production, the team primarily consisted of local Tennessee professionals. For this aspect of production, we employed the same COVID-19 protocol I had developed early on in the process to ensure the safety and health of those involved.

We then recruited a writers room of local talent in Memphis and sat down with them to work through the script for the pilot of High Heel in order to ensure the project’s authenticity.

During production, I returned to Los Angeles to oversee editing and give feedback to the creation of an original theme for High Heel by Post Malone. Once the editing process was complete, my partner and I assisted in selling the show to various networks and streaming services. In the image below, I am communicating with the Executive team at Showtime to pitch the High Heel pilot.

 Key Takeaways

Our original script involved an authenticity that was instrumental to ensuring the accurate portrayal of the world and heart of Memphis.

The process of creating the show was incredibly exciting, and our partnership with Trinidad James and the Arquettes was successful. Altogether, we were able to develop a compelling show that met the standards of all our creative partners.
